My morning started with talking to one of my close relatives today. “Our president is terrible! All the parties are corrupted and they did just nothing for us, Maria!” It was 17th of March, an election day in Israel. “So you think that these politicians we have in Israel nowadays didn’t succeed in fulfilling their duties? ” – I asked. “Of course not. There’s no way they could, they did nothing good for us.” “So why don’t you go vote and probably change something? Why not to give it a try? Everything depends on us, simple people like me and you. Why don’t you try to change something? Go to demonstrations, meetings, vote for better politicians or even promote yourself?” “Oh, come on Maria… you are so naive. There is nothing that can be changed in this country!” “So why did you move here then?” No answer.
I often meet such people in my life. They say just general phrases and when you ask them to prove it – they have no arguments or confirmation, no details. When time of changes come – they sit lazily on the sofa moaning and groaning that they can do nothing about it and that the president is just a crap! This is an easy position to give someone responsibility for your life. This is an infantile position. It easier to sit on your sofa saying all bad words you know about modern politicians.
I believe that voting is a very important right and duty of every citizen. Political system depends on us as well as we depend on political system. If anything is wrong, people can go to demonstrations outside their homes, just as Ukrainians did in 2014. It caused Revolution, it spilled a lot of blood…but they got what they asked for – a new president!
That is why I will never understand such people, who abuse their right to vote. Even if you don’t know whom to chose, you can go and chose a blank paper, which means “I don’t vote for any candidate!” At least your vote will not be stolen or falsified. Our teacher once said:” If you don’t vote, you just give a higher percentage for the majority party.” And it is true, according to the statistics. So even going to vote without chosing anyone is also a good thing, because if any candidate or party doesn’t get enough votes, government is supposed to find new, better candidates for its’ people!
I enjoyed the election day very much and I discovered a lot of differences in voting comparing to Ukraine. But I will write the next post about it. And for now, never forget that huge changes are made by simple people! Or “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” Don’t forget about it when election day comes!
